FAQ

Is there one best beginner squad?
No. Match the three available type slots to the hazards and jobs you can see. Onion suggestions provide a useful starting point.
Does this guide require Switch 2 Edition?
The expedition advice covers the original Pikmin 4. Academy and microphone additions have separate edition labels.

What should you do before leaving the base?

Pick one main goal and one optional goal. “Recover the treasure beside the cleared path” is actionable; “finish the whole area” usually is not. Check your available types and consult the Onion recommendation before deploying. You can carry three types in a normal squad, so filling every slot with the same combat favorite can make simple obstacles expensive.

Read the control prompts and set comfortable shortcuts in Options. A few moments spent learning recall and squad switching are more useful than memorizing a speedrun route you cannot yet execute. Keep the Pikmin reference open when a hazard is unfamiliar.

How should you divide your first jobs?

Think in dependencies. A blocked carrying route needs clearing before carriers can complete their job. A group already making a safe delivery can work while you scout a nearby objective, but only if you know where it will travel. Assign the minimum group that actually gets the task moving, then keep a reserve for the next obstacle.

A simple routine is check the route → assign a group → inspect the next job → return to collect idle workers. This is an editorial planning method, not a tested optimal route. Start with two simultaneous jobs; add a third only when you can track the first two reliably.

Where does Oatchi save the most effort?

Use Oatchi when one job repeatedly pulls Pikmin away from everything else. Carrying, movement and later commands can change that calculation. Do not spend points just because an upgrade is available: name the obstacle the purchase would solve first. The Oatchi planner makes those point tradeoffs visible.

What should you check before ending the day?

Look for idle groups, unfinished deliveries and Pikmin separated by a hazard. A treasure that you have reached is not the same as a treasure safely delivered. Record a short next-day note: location, blocking task and required type. This prevents the next landing from becoming another scouting trip to the same place.

Flowers improve movement and transport speed, according to Nintendo’s recruit guide. Treat squad preparation as part of the expedition rather than an unrelated chore. If the map becomes confusing, stop expanding the plan and finish the work already underway.

How do you know what comes next?

Follow the story milestone walkthrough for the broad progression order. For collection days, switch to the treasure guide. You do not need to force every type unlock, cave and treasure into your first visit. A deliberate return trip is often easier to manage than an overloaded first attempt.
